Number Of Ingredients 4

4-6 unsalted matzohs
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter or Passover margarine
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup chopped chocolate chips or semi-sweet chocolate

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350º Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper then line and arrange matzoh pieces on top. Break pieces as need to fit, though it doesn't have to be perfect. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar. Cook over medium to medium low heat until the mixture comes to a small boil. Then simmer for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour caramel sauce over the matzah and place baking sheet in the oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325º if browning too quickly. Remove pan from oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate over the caramelized matzoh with a spatula. While still warm, use the handle of hte spatula to break the chocolate covered matzah into squares or whatever odd shapes occur during the breaking process. Chill the entire thing in the freezer until set (maybe 30 minutes) You don't have to add chocolate and it still tastes yummy. Also would be a great sauce for dipping apples, pouring over sweet potatoes, etc. If not for Passover, try using graham crackers instead, then add pieces of peppermints :)
