Steps:
- Melt 1 cup butter and combine with water and 3/4 cup cocoa and bring to a boil.
- In a separate bowl combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Pour hot mixture over flour mixture and beat to combine.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and baking soda and combine.
- Pout batter into a greased 9x13 pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until done.
- While cake is baking, prepare the chocolate frosting.
- For Frosting--Melt butter and combine with buttermilk, cocoa, vanilla, and salt.
- Beat in the powdered sugar. Frosting should be thick but runny enough to cover the cake when poured on. If frosting is too thick, add more buttermilk or heavy cream a little at a time until you have the right consistency.
- Remove cake from oven and pour frosting over the cake while it is still warm.
