Kellie's Chocolate Sheet Cake image

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 cup Butter
3/4 cup Cocoa
1 cup Water
2 cups Flour
2 cups Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 Eggs
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 cube Butter for Frosting
3/4 cup Cocoa for Frosting
16 ounces Powdered Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla for Frosting
1 pinch Salt for Frosting
1/2 cup Buttermilk or Sour Cream for Frosting

Steps:

  • Melt 1 cup butter and combine with water and 3/4 cup cocoa and bring to a boil.
  • In a separate bowl combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour hot mixture over flour mixture and beat to combine.
  • Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and baking soda and combine.
  • Pout batter into a greased 9x13 pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until done.
  • While cake is baking, prepare the chocolate frosting.
  • For Frosting--Melt butter and combine with buttermilk, cocoa, vanilla, and salt.
  • Beat in the powdered sugar. Frosting should be thick but runny enough to cover the cake when poured on. If frosting is too thick, add more buttermilk or heavy cream a little at a time until you have the right consistency.
  • Remove cake from oven and pour frosting over the cake while it is still warm.
