Jeanne's Goulash image

This is a warm comfort food for cool weather. My mother fixed this for us when we were children. It was a favorite then and I still love to fix it.

1 lb ground beef
1 lb mild pork sausage
1 green bell pepper, chopped (optional)
3 clove garlic, chopped
1 onions, yellow, medium, diced
3 c water
2 can(s) (15 oz) tomato sauce
2 c (15 oz) diced tomatoes
2 Tbsp italian seasoning
2 c elbow macaroni, uncooked
1 Tbsp seasoned salt

Steps:

  • 1. Brown the ground beef and ground pork over medium-high heat. Break up the meat while cooking. Spoon off any grease.
  • 2. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and sauté until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • 3. Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, and pepper. Stir well. Cover and allow to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • 4. Add the elbow macaroni, stir well, return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • 5. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to sit about 15 minutes more before serving.
