Ida's Gooseberry Dumplings image

Another recipe from my Grandmother, Ida. She could do wonderful things with gooseberries! My oh my, I miss her cooking! If you like tart with some sweet, you'll enjoy this dessert. Cooking and prep times are approximate.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 cup milk
2 (16 ounce) cans gooseberries, in syrup
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
whipped cream

Steps:

  • Dumplings:.
  • Put water on to boil.
  • Mix your ingredients gently, just until mixed.
  • Drop by scant tablespoonful into boiling water.
  • Cover and cook for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Remove from water and either set aside, or put into the gooseberry pool if it is ready.
  • Gooseberries:.
  • Drain gooseberries, reserving the juice.
  • Mix ingredients into a skillet and heat over medium heat until thick.
  • Add the dumplings.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream.
  • Enjoy.
