Homemade Corned Beef image

I learned how to make this when I looked throughout the UK for corned beef. They do it themselves over here! "Corned" refers to what Brits used to refer to as a unit of salt.

Yield 1 corned beef, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

5 cups water
1 cup salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 garlic cloves, crushed
6 -8 lbs beef brisket (in the UK, beef roast)

Steps:

  • Boil water and add salt, sugar and garlic.
  • Stir until salt and sugar are dissolved.
  • Put water mixture in fridge/ freezer until cool.
  • Place brisket in large plastic bag and add mixture.
  • Refrigerate for 24 hours, flipping every 4-6 hours.
  • Afterwards, you have corned beef and can cook to any preference! This way is a great way to have corned beef without artificial additives.
