Hermit Cookies image

This version of this delicious cookie is quite different than the others already posted. With an old fashioned flavour they will have your kids coming back for more. It's my husband's favorite cookie!

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 1/2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups margarine, softened
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
sugar, for rolling

Steps:

  • Mix the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, raisins and nuts in a bowl. Cream 2 cups sugar, margarine and eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses. Add the flour mixture and mix well. Chill, covered, for 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 325*F.
  • Shape the dough into fingersize pieces. Roll in sugar. Arrange on greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 7 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
