Number Of Ingredients 15

1 Head of Cabbage
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef
1 1/2 pounds of ground pork
1 1/2 cups of cooked rice
1/4 cup finely cut onion sautéed
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (28 ounce) can of tomato sauce
12 oz. cabbage water
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 2/3 tablespoons white sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Place cabbage in a stockpot with 1/4 teaspoon salt and cover with water. 2. Boil until leaves start to fall off. Separate leaves and place aside to cool. Boil until all leaves have been cooked and removed. Save 12 oz. of cabbage water. 3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 4. Trim thick center vein off of bottom of each cabbage leaf 5. In a large bowl thoroughly mix together, ground beef, ground pork, rice, sautéed onion, parsley, egg , garlic powder, salt and pepper. 6. Lightly pack a small amount of meat mixture and place in the center of the cabbage leaf. Fold sides over the filling and start at the stem and roll up the cabbage. 7. Cut the leftover cabbage leaves into pieces and place in the bottom of a roasting pan. 8. In a bowl, mix tomato sauce, reserved cabbage water, vinegar and sugar. 9. Pour the tomato sauce mixture over the cabbage rolls. 10. Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil. 11. Bake in preheated oven until the ground beef mixture is no longer pink in the center, about 2 1/2 hours. Baste stuffed cabbage rolls every hour.
