Great Great Great Grandma's Rice Pudding image

My Great Grandma Charlotte Kennedy's recipe, given to her daughter Mabel Kennedy Sullivan, and given to me Colleen Sullivan Sowa. Originally this was baked in a wood stove, it has been adapted to gas and electric stoves over the years. I love the measurement of "the size of an egg" for the butter! Number Of Ingredients 10

3 c rice
3 qt milk
1 c brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
butter the size of an egg
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS
4 large eggs, beaten
1 c raisins
extra sugar or cinnamon sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla or almond extract

Steps:

  • 1. Put all ingredients into a large baking pan. Stir all together. Bake in medium oven (350 degrees) for about an hour. Until rice is done and it is creamy.
  • 2. *** You can add cinnamon, raisins,and vanilla if you like. *** Serve warm with some butter on it if you like.
