6 egg whites
1/2 cup sifted flour
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup sifted sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring
6 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon lemon flavoring

Steps:

  • For 1st cake, sift flour and sugar separately four times.
  • Beat egg whites until frothy.
  • Add cream of tartar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Beat until egg whites stand in peaks.
  • Add sugar gradually.
  • Add flavoring.
  • Fold in flour.
  • Pour in ungreased tube pan.
  • Let stand while preparing second cake.
  • For 2nd cake, beat egg yolks to lemon color, stir, and fluffy.
  • Add sugar and salt, beating continuously.
  • Add flavorings.
  • Fold in flour, sifted with baking powder, alternately with hot water.
  • Pour slowly over first cake part.
  • Bake.
  • Invert until cold.
