German Beer Bread image

Found this recipe while flipping through a magazine in the Doctor office waiting room. I usually use Coors but this time I used Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat beer. Wow! It knocked our socks off!

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 1/2 cup(s) flour
3 tablespoon(s) sugar
1 tablespoon(s) baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
12 ounce(s) beer i used kleinenkugl's sunset wheat)
1 - egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add beer (no sips!) and stir with a fork until just combined. Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead quickly to form a ball.
  • Transfer bread onto the baking sheet lightly coated with Pam. Confidently slit an X on top with a serrated knife. Brush entire loaf with egg wash. Bake until golden brown, about 45 minutes. Transfer bread to a wire rack to cool.
