Fruit and Jello Dessert image

There are so many ways to prepare jello- but this is the way I like to make it when planning a buffet or luncheon get together. My mom makes it like this and I have added it to my recipe file for a quick and easy dessert for any occasion! I hope you enjoy this family recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 14

BOTTOM LAYER :
8 - vanilla cream filled snack cakes like twinkies, sliced in half lengthwise or use loaf angel food cake sliced in 3 layers like cake place on bottom of pan
MIDDLE LAYER:
2 box(es) (3 oz. each) jello your choice
2 cup(s) boiling water
24 ounce(s) can crushed pineapple
21 ounce(s) can pie filling your choice
TOP LAYER:
8 ounce(s) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup(s) granulated sugar
1/2 pint(s) fruit flavor or plain yogurt
1 tablespoon(s) vanilla
8 ounce(s) container of cool whip
1/2 cup(s) chopped nuts, optional

Steps:

  • Bottom Layer: Slice cakes in half lengthwise; place in a single layer in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Chill.
  • Middle Layer: Dissolve jello in boiling water and let cool. Add pineapple with juice and the pie filling. Mix to blend evenly. Chill until slightly jelled. Spoon mixture over first layer. Chill
  • Top Layer: Blend cream cheese and yogurt. Beat in sugar and vanilla, fold in cool whip and spread over set jello mixture. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired - for a nice rich crunch.
  • Note: Other jello and pie filling can be used.
