Frosted Cream image

I usually call these ginger bars. My grandma, who adores ginger loves these bars.

BAR:
1/4 c shortening
1/4 c sugar
1/2 c molasses
1 egg
2 c all-purposed flour
1 tsp baking soda
1-2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c water
GLAZE:
1 1/2 c confectioners' sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp milk
1 1/2 tsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 2. Beat in molasses and egg.
  • 3. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with water, mixing well after each addition.
  • 4. Pour into a greased 13"x9" baking pan. Bake at 400* for 13-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack.
  • 5. In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Spread over cooled bars.
