Detroit Coney Sauce image

This is a copy cat recipe from a coney place in Detroit where they know their coneys. Will be trying this soon but just found it so I have not tested it yet, but Detroiter's know their coneys so it has to be good

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 pound(s) ground beef
1 box(es) (2 packs ) onion soup mix
2 cup(s) black coffee
6 ounce(s) can tomato paste
1 tablespoon(s) chilli powder
1 teaspoon(s) cumin
1 teaspoon(s) alspice
1/4 cup(s) vinegar
1 tablespoon(s) worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoon(s) sugar

Steps:

  • IN A LARGE SAUCEPAN - MIX 2 CUPS OF BLACK COFFEE WITH ALL THE INGREDIENTS EXCEPT GROUND BEEF AND COOK OVER MEDIUM HEAT UNTIL BOILING. REDUCE TO SIMMER AND COOK LONG ENOUGH TO SATURATE THE DEHYDRATED ONIONS IN THE SOUP MIX. ADD THE GROUND BEEF INTO LIQUID AND MASH WITH POTATO MASHER, COOKING THOROUGHLY. SIMMER FOR ABOUT AN HOUR OR TWO AND SPOON OVER STEAMED OR BOILED KOEGELS VIENNAS IN THE BUN, LOAD UP WITH MINCED ONIONS AND MUSTARD.
