This is a delicious side addition to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. It's wonderful anytime if you love onions. My Mother made these for many years as did I and it's one of my Sons favorites. Hope you enjoy as much as we do.

Steps:
- 1. For the fresh onions, add to several inches of salted boiling water. Cover and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes for small and 30-35 for the larger. Drain and remove skins.
- 2. Melt butter over low heat. Blend in flour, salt and pepper. Cook over low heat stirring constantly until smooth and bubbly..
- 3. Romove from heat. Slowly stir in milk of choice. Place back on heat and bring to boiling stirring constantly. Simmer and stir 1 minute.
- 4. Add nutmeg and sugar if desired. Correct seasoning and pour over onions.
