I had never really been fond of raisins until I found this recipe in the newspaper back in the 70's...it surprised me at how good they were in this cookie and this recipe has since become a favorite in my family. Number Of Ingredients 13

2 c raisins (dark)
1 c water
3 1/2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 c shortening (i use crisco)
1 3/4 c sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Boil water and raisins for 3 minutes. Set aside and cool. In a large bowl blend flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & spices and set aside. In another bowl, cream shortening and gradually add sugar; mix well and then add eggs, stir in raisins with liquid and add vanilla.
  • 2. Add the dry mixture to the shortening mixture, mix well..stir in nuts. Drop full tablespoon size cookie dough onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees..for 12 to 15 minutes.
