Christmas Cut-out Cookies image

Been using this recipe for my Christmas cookies for many, many years ! It is the easiest dough to work with and the taste is the best of all the cut-out-cookies I have ever tested. My husband , daughters and I get together every year and enjoy decorating these cookies.

1 c (2 sticks) of butter
1 1/2 c sifted confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 1/2 c sifted all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar

Gradually add to cream mixture and mix to thoroughly blended. Roll dough to 1/8" on floured surface use cookie cutter to desired shapes. Bake 6-8 Minutes ~ yields about 6 dozen (depending on size of the cut-outs you use)
  • 2. Note: I like to put the dough in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes so it is easier to roll out. Use colored conf. sugar and sprinkles or jimmies to decorate.
