Chocolate Revel Bars image

This is a recipe from my "Amish Cooking" cookbook. Posting for Susie's World Tour 2018.

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 1/2 cup(s) flour
2 cup(s) sugar
1 cup(s) butter
1 teaspoon(s) salt
2 - eggs
2 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
3 cup(s) oatmeal
FILLING INGREDIENTS
12 ounce(s) chocolate chips
14 ounce(s) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoon(s) butter
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 cup(s) nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix together the flour, sugar, butter and salt, as you would for pie crumbs. (Reserve some of the crumbs for topping) Add the eggs, vanilla, soda and oatmeal and mix the dough until it is smooth. Spread it 2/3 inch thick in a baking pan. Top it with the filling.
  • For the Filling: Melt together in a double boiler the chocolate chips, milk, butter, salt and nuts, if desired. Spread this over the dough, top it with the reserved crumbs and bake it for 25-30 minutes.
