Chili in a Basket (Gift Giving) image

A nice welcome gift for new neighbors, or someone who has just moved.

3 can(s) (14.5 oz. each) kidney beans
1 can(s) (14.5 oz) black beans
1 can(s) (14.5 oz) tomato sauce
1 can(s) (6 oz) tomato paste
1 can(s) (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 tablespoon(s) instant minced onion
2 teaspoon(s) beef bouillon granules
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1 tablespoon(s) ground cumin
2 1/2 tablespoon(s) chili powder
1 teaspoon(s) dried oregano
1/8 teaspoon(s) cayenne pepper
1 small bay leaf
1 - sturdy wicker basket

Steps:

  • Arrange canned items in the basket.
  • Combine instant minced onion, bouillon, salt, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder and oregano, cayenne pepper and bay leaf; place in a small airtight plastic bag and place the plastic bag in a decorative paper bag, and label "Seasoning Packet."
  • Place the seasoning packet in the basket. Attach a pretty ribbon and a gift tag with the following instructions:
  • Chili Beans 1 pound ground beef, cooked and drained (optional) Tomato sauce Tomato paste Diced Tomatoes Seasoning packet Water Drain and rinse cans of beans. Place in a large dutch oven. Add cooked ground beef (if using). Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes and seasoning packet. Add water as needed, depending on how thick you like it. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove and discard bay leaf.
