Candied Sweet Potatoes image

Everyone that eats these think they are delicious. I tell them if you like these, you should have ate the ones that my mama made! That is why I say that they are "almost" like my mama's.

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 - sweet potatoes, peeled
1/4 cup(s) canola oil
1/4 cup(s) butter
3/4 cup(s) white sugar
1 pinch(es) salt

Steps:

  • Slice the peeled sweet potatoes into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Add oil and butter to cast iron pot. Heat.
  • Add sweet potatoes. Sprinkle with salt. Then add sugar over the sweet potatoes. Stir.
  • Cover skillet. Reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for one hour or until the sauce is dark and the potatoes are candied. They should be tender, but a little hard around the edges.
