I found this recipe in a Family Circle cookie collection booklet. I thought they would look so festive on a cookie tray. Plus, the similarity to fruit cake, would be a cookie, that my mother would love. So, I will make some for her at Christmas time. I tweaked the recipe a little & forgot to say so when posting recipe & updating. Prep time, does not include chill time, in refrigerator.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease baking sheets.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt, in a bowl. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar at medium speed, until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. At low speed, beat in dry ingredients. Also, at low speed, beat in buttermilk. Stir in fruits and nuts. Chill 1 hour.
- Drop dough by Tbs. on prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Shape into rough balls; flatten slightly. Dot with cherry half. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
