Braised Chicken with Shiitake Mushrooms image

Great Asian flavored dish

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 chicken thighs
8 oz shiitake mushrooms
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
4 clove garlic minced
1 tsp chinese 5 spice
1 Tbsp rice wine
2 Tbsp each soy sauce and oyster sauce
1 tsp dark soy sauce
1 1/2 tsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp grated ginger
3 scallions chopped
fresh cilantro chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Mix the sugar, oil, 5 spice, rice wine, oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and cornstarch. Pour over chicken and let marinate at least 2 hours to overnight.
  • 2. Add some oil to the skillet. Add the ginger and garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the chicken and brown on both sides.Remove the chicken to a plate. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned.
  • 3. Add the chicken back to the skillet with any juices accumulated. Add water just enough to cover the chicken. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer and simmer about 15 to 20 minutes until chicken is done and sauce thickened.
  • 4. Garnish with scallions and cilantro
