BRAISED CABBAGE WITH APPLES image

3 TBS butter
1 Large red cabbage, cored and sliced
1 apple, cored and diced
1/4 cup apple cider or juice
2 TBS brown sugar
1/2 tsp nutmeg
About 1 teaspoon salt
2 TBS apple-cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Melt butter in large, heavy skillet over medium heat. Add cabbage, apple, cider, caraway, nutmeg, sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes. Add vinegar and cook, uncovered, stirring occasionallhy, until liquid has evaporated. Season with more salt and pepper if needed.
