Steps:
- 1. Combine sugar, butter, cornstarch and salt. Add milk slowly, stirring constantly. Cook over hot water until thick and smooth.
- 2. Add slightly beaten egg yolk.Cook 1 minute, add nuts and flavoring. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- 3. Pour into baked pastry shell and bake in moderate to hot oven, 375-400 till filling is firm. Watch carefully.
