Best Buttermilk Banana Bread image

This is the best banana bread I've ever eaten and it's the buttermilk that is the secret. When my kids see that our bananas are past their prime, they ask me to make a loaf of this fantastic bread!

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 3/4 c all purpose flour
1 3/4 c whole wheat flour
1 3/4 c sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
2 c bananas, mashed
4 eggs
3/4 c butter, melted
2/3 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 c pecans, toasted and chopped (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Prepare two 9x5-inch loaf pans.
  • 2. Combine dry ingredients (first 8 ingredients) in a large bowl.
  • 3. Combine wet ingredients (next 5 ingredients) in a medium bowl.
  • 4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and combine just until flour is moistened. Add nuts if using and combine (do not overmix).
