Basic Buttermilk Cake image

This cake is one my Grandmother Winnie Aaron gave me. She said you CAN'T use the mixer. This one has to beaten with a WOODEN SPOON. She said it makes a difference in the crumb.. I don't know, I've just always made it like she showed me. This one is the one she baked for her coconut filling and boiled chocolate frosting. Grandma passed in 1984 at the age of 84 years. She gave birth to 16 children and was active up untill just a few months before she died. She was fiesty and could be mean sometimes.. LOL
