Barbecued Rice image

This is a different but delicious rice side dish- Once you try it you will make it often. Great also with added BBQ chicken or,some scrambled hamburger, or a pork chop or a nice piece of fish. Recipe fro "Kitchen Chatter" recipe cookbook #1 1968.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tsp seasoned salt
1 pinch pepper
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 c chopped onion
1/4 c whole kernel corn,drained
1 c heinz sweet chili sauce or tomato ketchup
1 c water
6 slice lemon, thin sliced and quartered
2 tsp ground mustard
3 Tbsp brown sugar
2 c instant brown rice
3 Tbsp butter or margarine

Steps:

  • 1. Melt butter in a large cast iron skillet. Add uncooked rice and brown, stirring constantly. Add onion, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, chili sauce, mustard, brown sugar,water, lemons and corn. Stir to mix Cover and simmer about 30 minutes or until rice has absorbed most of the liquid.
  • 2. This is a great side for BBQ pork, or chicken or fish. Or if you want to add scrambled cook hamburger that tastes great too- that's the way my kids liked it when they were small.
