Award Winning Apple Pie image

My husband loves this pie, but says the best part is the homemade crust.

Number Of Ingredients 15

6 medium apples, golden delicious or granny smith, sliced
3/4 c whitesugar
1/2 c browm sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
PIE CRUST FOR DOUBLE CRUST PIE
3 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 c butter flavor shortening
1 tsp white vinegar
1 large egg, beaten
4 Tbsp ice cold water

Steps:

  • 1. Put apples in a large bowl. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over apples. Toss gently to coat well. Put in a 9" pie crust, dot with butter, adjust top crust and bake at 450 for 15 minutes and then 350 for 45 minutes.
  • 2. For pie crust; Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in shortening. Add vinegar and egg, then add water. Mix to form a dough ball, separate into two balls, roll out on floured surface.
