Aunt Bert's White Cake image

This is a very old recipe that I got from my deceased friend Holli's Aunt Bert. Everyone will love it.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups white sugar
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3 egg yolks
1 egg
½ cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup shortening
1 cup boiling water

Steps:

  • Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. Set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
  • Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.
  • Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture.
  • Add boiling water, and mix well.
  • Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool. I frost with cream cheese frosting.
