Sloppy joes with a twist! Served it with white rice and steamed veggies. An adaptation of a R. Reisman recipe. If the sauce is not thick enough, add a bit of flour or cornstarch and it will do the trick!

2 teaspoons crushed garlic
1 teaspoon crushed fresh ginger
1/2 cup finely diced carrot
1 cup finely diced red bell pepper
2 lbs extra lean ground beef
28 ounces diced tomatoes
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
