Applesauce Meat Loaf image

I first made this years ago, when my kids were little and they liked it when main dishes were a little sweet. I also suspect they liked it because it looks like a volcano.

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 slice orowheat country white bread, shredded to bits
1/2 c applesauce, unsweetened
1 lb ground meat (i use buffalo)
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 c finely chopped celery
2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
1 tsp dijon mustard
1/2 tsp salt
dash(es) pepper
TOPPING
1/2 c applesauce, unsweetened
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp vinegar
1/2 tsp dijon mustard

Steps:

  • 1. Combine bread crumbs and applesauce in a medium bowl. Add ground meat, egg, celery, onion, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper; blend thoroughly. Shape into a round loaf in an 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
  • 2. Combine topping ingredients in a small bowl. With a spoon make a crater-like depression in top of loaf. Pour topping into crater.
  • 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
