Apple Galette image

This scrumptious Apple Galette will get you in the mood for autumn with a four ingredient crust, crisp apples, and some of your favorite fall spices. The end result is equally as delicious as your favorite apple pie with a fraction of the work. I love to serve this with fresh Homemade Whipped Cream or Vanilla Ice Cream.

PIE CRUST
1/2 c chilled butter cut in small cubes
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c chilled water
APPLE FILLING
2-3 large apples peeled, cored and sliced into 1/4 inch slices
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1/4 c brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1 egg
1 Tbsp cold water

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 2. Combine butter, flour, and salt. Using a pastry blender cut in the butter until very crumbly. Add chilled water a few tablespoons at a time mixing with a fork until the dough pulls together. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
  • 3. In a large bowl combine apples and lemon juice. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Stir to combine.
  • 4. Gently roll the piecrust out to a 12 inch circle on a lightly floured surface. Trim the rough edges with a pizza cutter or leave them for a more rustic look. Carefully move the pie crust to the baking sheet. Spoon the apples into the center of the pie crust and bring up the edges tucking it in and folding it along the way.
  • 5. Whisk together the egg and water. Using a pastry brush lightly coat the top and sides of the pastry dough with the egg wash. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. You do not have to roll the pie crust into a perfect circle which is one of the advantages of making an easy galette.
