ANGEL BISCUITS image

Number Of Ingredients 9

5 cups all-purpose flour -- white lily is best
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup butter, melted -- cooled to 115 deg.
2 cups buttermilk -- room temp

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, sift or whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In a small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water and let stand until creamy, about 5 minutes. In a medium sized bowl, combine 1 cup of flour mixture, all of yeast mixture, melted butter, and 1 cup of the buttermilk. Stir to combine, Add remaining flour and buttermilk, alternating between the two, stirring between additions. When a sticky dough forms, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Remove dough from the fridge ad turn out onto a floured surface. Knead a few times and roll to 1/2". Cut with a biscuit cutter (about 2 1/4" round). Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake until golden brown, about 12-15 minutes.
