Number Of Ingredients 12

1 large rattlesnake, skinned, cooled and cubed
1/3+ cup flour, divided
1 tablespoon oil
1 large onion, chopped
5 cups water, divided
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 - 3 teaspoons salt, or to taste
6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 cup sliced celery
2 teaspoons browning sauce

Steps:

  • Coat meat lightly with flour (reserve 1/3 cup) and brown in oil in a large pan. Cover with 4 cups water and add chopped onion and seasonings. Bring to a boil and turn down to simmer until meat is tender (1-2 hours), then add vegetables. Bring to a boil and turn down to simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes. Combine 1/3 cup flour, 1 cup cold water, and browning sauce until smooth. Stir into the stew, stirring until stew thickens slightly.

How to make Rattlesnake Stew

Number Of Ingredients 11

Crumbled Ground Beef 12 ounces
Crumbled Sausage 12 ounces
Ground Cloves 1/4 Tsp.
Ground Cinnamon 1/2 Tsp.
Large Onion Diced
Beef Bouillon Powder 2 Tsp.
Raw Pasta (macaroni or similar) 1 1/2 cups
Pinto Beans 15 ounce can
Diced Tomatoes 15 ounce can
Dr. Pepper 2 12 ounce cans
Salt & Pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Spray cast iron Dutch oven with cooking spray.
  • Place beef and sausage into pan.
  • Sprinkle meats with cloves and cinnamon.
  • Add diced onion, bouillon powder and pasta.
  • Spoon tomatoes into pot, add pinto beans and pour Dr. Pepper over top.
  • Cover and place pot in the hot coals for 50-60 minutes.
  • Stir and continue to cook, covered, until pasta is tender.
