I got the gift bags (clear see through) and will fill it with these turtles and tie with a Christmas ribbon. When I saw them I thought of my oldest grandson...

Categories     Candy     Chocolate     Christmas

Yield 50 Turtles

Number Of Ingredients 4

One 14-oz bag soft caramels
One 10-oz bag pretzel nuggets
12 oz semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
2 c natural almonds, toasted and finely chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Unwrap the caramels, then using a rolling pin, roll out each one into a 1/8-inch-thick oval. Wrap a rolled-out caramel around each pretzel nugget, pinching the ends to seal. 2. In a double boiler over simmering water, melt half of the chocolate, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Add the remaining chocolate, remove the top of the double boiler from the saucepan and stir until smooth. 3. Place the almonds in a shallow bowl. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Using a fork, dip a caramel-covered pretzel nugget in the chocolate to coat, tapping off any excess chocolate. Transfer the pretzel to the almonds and toss to coat; place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzel nuggets. Let stand until set about 3 hours.

Get this all-star, easy-to-follow Pretzel Turtles recipe from Ree Drummond

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 4

24 pecan halves
24 mini pretzel twists
24 individually wrapped soft caramel squares, unwrapped
8 ounces good-quality milk chocolate, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.Put the pecan halves on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake, shaking the sheet once halfway through, until lightly toasted, 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer the nuts to a plate to cool.Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the pretzels neatly on the baking sheet, then top each pretzel with an unwrapped caramel. Bake until the caramels soften (but are definitely not melting), 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and gently press a pecan half onto each caramel, just enough for the caramel to fill the pretzel. Set aside to cool completely.Remove the cooled pretzel/caramels from the baking sheet. Spoon 24 small dollops (1 1/2-teaspoon helpings) of the melted chocolate all over the baking sheet, then lightly drop a pretzel onto the middle of each dollop, making sure the pretzel is centered. Allow them to cool completely before serving (you can hasten this along in the fridge).
