Easy Sausage Cheese Balls image

These are great for appetizers or for breakfast! Sausage cheese balls may be frozen before or after baking.

1 pound sausage
4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
3 cups baking mix

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, combine the sausage, cheese, and dry baking mix. Mix together, and shape mixture into walnut-sized balls. Place on a foil-lined cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve hot.

Traditional, classic, and always a hit! These sausage balls are even better with a choice of dipping sauces.

1 pound sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
1 pound pork sausage (recommend: Jimmy Dean brand; use mild, medium, or hot according to your preference)
3 cups biscuit mix (recommend: Bisquick brand)
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons honey
½ cup catsup
1 ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (more or less to taste)
¼ teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, mix the cheese and sausage briefly on slow speed. Add the biscuit mix a little at a time increasing the mixer speed as needed.
  • Roll the mixture into 1" diameter balls and place on baking sheets. Cook for 15-18 minutes or until a light golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool on the pans.
  • Note: the sausage balls may be mixed and rolled, placed on the baking sheets, and frozen. When frozen, remove and place in plastic freezer storage bags. If cooking from frozen, allow several more minutes of cooking time.
  • To prepare the dipping sauces, mix each sauce's ingredients together in a small bowl. Stir until well blended.

3 tablespoons biscuit/baking mix
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 pound bulk pork sausage
Cooking spray
Sweet-and-sour sauce, optional
Barbecue sauce, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a small bowl, combine the Cheddar, biscuit mix, onion, celery, garlic powder and pepper. Crumble sausage over mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-inch balls.
  • Place the sausage balls in a shallow baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake, uncovered, for 12 to 15 minutes or until no longer pink and cooked through. Remove from the baking pan and drain on paper towels. Serve on a platter with sauces, if desired.
