This is an easy, delicious, do-ahead baked casserole brunch recipe that doesn't need any syrup, since the French toast has its own praline topping. You can microwave the praline topping slightly to help spreadability.

1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
8 eggs
2 cups half-and-half
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped toasted pecans
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and arrange bread slices in a row.
  • Combine eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl. Beat using an electric mixer until blended. Pour mixture over bread slices, making sure all are evenly covered. Cover baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Combine butter, brown sugar, chopped pecans, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Spread praline topping over bread mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until puffed and lightly golden, about 40 minutes.

Another do ahead, enjoy your family & guests recipe. Serve this with some good bacon fried crisp or sausages. Have it as part of your Christmas Brunch. Whenever I'm sure they will enjoy it.

1/4 cup butter (melt the butter while the dish is baking) or 1/4 cup margarine, melted
7 large eggs
2 cups eggnog
1 1/2 ounces rum (optional)
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 French bread, cut into 1 inch slices
icing sugar

Steps:

  • Beat together eggs, eggnog, rum, sugar,nutmeg, cinnamon,salt& vanilla.
  • Dip both sides of each slice of bread in this mixture and place them side by side in a greased oven proof pyrex dish Pour any remaining mixture over the slices.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight (If you wish you can freeze the dish and put in fridge to defrost the evening before you wish to serve it).
  • Bake in 450f on bottom rack for 20-25 minutes (watch the bottom doesn't get too brown).
  • Place on rack to cool slightly& dust with icing sugar.
  • Serve with Canadian Maple syrup and the melted butter.

1 (16 ounce) French bread, loaf
1/4 cup butter, softened
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Cut bread loaf into about 10 (3/4-inch-thick) slices.
  • Spread butter evenly over one cut side of each bread slice.
  • Arrange bread, butter side up, in an ungreased 13- x 9-inch baking dish.
  • Whisk together eggs and next 5 ingredients; pour over bread, pressing slices down. Cover and chill 8 hours.
  • Remove bread slices from baking dish, and place on two lightly greased baking sheets.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 45 minutes or until golden.

vegetable oil cooking spray
16 ounces French bread, cut into 20 slices
8 ounces fat free cream cheese, cut into 1/4 inch thick slices
3 cups liquid egg substitute
2 cups skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup fat-free maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with vegetable spray.
  • Layer 10 slices of French bread in bottom of pan.
  • You can cut slices to fit.
  • Top evenly with cream cheese slices, then with remaining French bread slices.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together egg substitute, milk, vanilla extract, syrup, and cinnamon.
  • Pour over bread, coating all of the bread.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours.
  • Remove from refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bake for 1 hour or until all liquid is absorbed and the French bread is set in the center.
  • To keep bread from browning to much, lay a piece of aluminum foil over top when French bread just begins to brown.
  • Cut into 12 pieces and serve with raspberry syrup.

We tried this over the Christmas holidays and it was a hit! Love that it leaves the morning free from cooking during family get-togethers. It originally came from the Allrecipes site, and we made a few changes.

1 lb French bread, loaf cut diagonally in 1 inch slices
6 eggs
1 1/4 cups milk
1 cup cream (can use half and half)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus extra to taste
3/4 cup butter
1 1/3 cups brown sugar
3 tablespoons light corn syrup

Steps:

  • Butter a 10x14 inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of bread in the bottom. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over bread slices, cover, and refrigerate overnight, turning over after several hours.
  • The next morning, remove dish from refrigerator and sprinkle with cinnamon to taste. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture. Bake in preheated oven, uncovered, for 25 minutes. This is a great recipe for a do ahead breakfast when you have company. It is easy to put together the night before. Just bake the morning of while you prepare the rest of breakfast. I find a nice fruit plate and and crisp fried bacon top off a lovely meal.

1 French baguette, cut into 2 inch slices
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
maple syrup

Steps:

  • Lay french bread slices, in single layer in large tupperware. (or several sealable containers).
  • In a large bowl combine eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, grand marnier, and salt. Wisk well.
  • Pour egg mixture over bread. Turning each piece of bread to coat well. Seal and place in refridgerator over night.
  • In the morning, generously butter two baking sheets with edges.
  • Place bread slices carefully on baking sheets, seperating them by 2 inches. Discard any unabsorbed liquid.
  • Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 10minutes. Turn bread slices over and bake another 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and serve with maple syrup.
