There's nothing better than classic, crispy, oven-fried Southern-style chicken. This recipe is so easy, you'll want to make it all the time!

2 lbs chicken
1/4 cup hot sauce
1 medium egg
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup plain bread crumbs
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp seasoning salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
Vegetable oil to spritz the chicken (I used peanut oil)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  • Make sure that the chicken is nice and clean, then set to the side.
  • Next, combine the hot sauce and egg in a bowl. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the hot sauce and egg mixture all over the chicken, and make sure that the chicken is nicely coated.
  • Now combine the flour, bread crumbs, seasoning salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning. Mix until well combined.
  • Once the flour and seasonings are well combined, coat all of the pieces of chicken.
  • Now grab a cookie sheet or sheet pan and cooling rack. Place the cooling rack on top of the cookie sheet.
  • Spray the rack with with vegetable oil, then place the chicken on top of the rack.
  • Spray each piece of chicken with oil until it's well coated. Make sure to get both sides.
  • Place the chicken in the oven, and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until it's golden brown and cooked throughout!
  • Serve and enjoy!

All the flavors of the deep fried chicken without all the extra fat and oily mess. These chicken thighs are coated with a seasoned Panko and baked until golden brown and perfectly crisp!

2 cups Panko bread crumbs
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 large egg whites
8 (5 - 6 oz each) bone-in, skinless chicken thighs, (visible excess fat trimmed)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place a large wire rack over an 18 by 13-inch baking sheet, spray wire rack with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Pour Panko into a shallow mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss and rub with fingertips to evenly moisten.
  • Add paprika, thyme, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and season with salt and pepper to taste then toss.
  • In a separate shallow mixing bowl, whisk together egg whites, salt and pepper until slightly frothy.
  • Working with one pieces of chicken at a time, dip both sides of chicken in egg white then transfer to Panko mixture and dredge both sides in mixture while pressing crumbs to adhere, sprinkle some crumbs over top as well and press.
  • Transfer to prepared wire rack spacing evenly apart.
  • Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and cooked through (center of thickest portion should register 165ºF on an instant read thermometer), about 50 minutes. Serve warm.

I love fried chicken, but it takes so long and is such a big mess. I came up with this one, and have been making it ever since! Everyone I have given the recipe to has loved it as well.

12 chicken thighs
3 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon paprika
½ cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place flour in a shallow plate or bowl and season with salt and pepper to taste. Put the bread crumbs in another shallow plate or bowl and beat the eggs in another bowl.
  • Dredge the chicken piece by piece in the flour, then the egg, then the bread crumbs, until all pieces are coated. Pour the oil into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Add the chicken to the dish and sprinkle with paprika to taste. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then turn pieces over and bake for another 30 minutes. 1 1/3 cups crispy rice cereal
2 1/4 cups bagel chips or Melba toasts
5 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
3/4 teaspoon hot paprika
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt (2%)
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
4 skinless, bone-in chicken thighs or halved bone-in breasts (about 6 ounces each)
2 bunches scallions
Harissa, chili sauce or ketchup, for the sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F. Set a rack on a foil-lined baking sheet and generously coat the rack with cooking spray.
  • Finely grind the cereal and bagel chips in a food processor and transfer to a large resealable plastic bag. Add 3 teaspoons olive oil, the paprika, 2 teaspoons salt, and pepper to taste and toss.
  • Whisk 1/2 cup yogurt and the mustard in a shallow bowl. Add the chicken and turn to coat, then transfer to the bag; seal and shake to coat. Place the chicken on the rack and mist with cooking spray.
  • Toss the scallions with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil and place alongside the chicken. Bake until the chicken is crisp and a thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 160 degrees F, about 30 minutes.
  • Make the dipping sauce: Mix the remaining 1 cup yogurt and harissa to taste in a bowl. Serve the chicken and scallions with the sauce.
