I love making this, My father loves this cake, if you want to make it diabetic, substitute the brown sugar sugar free brown sugar.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 c crisco shortening
2 c light brown sugar
4 kg eggs
2 tsp vanilla flavoring
5 c flour
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
ICING FOR CAKE
1 jar(s) (28oz) apple butter
1 jar(s) (28oz) apple sauce

Steps:

  • 1. By hand mix the crisco,brown sugar, eggs,& flavoring together,Then gradually add the flour & cinnamon. Store in the refrigerator until well chilledover night then devide dough in 6 portions..
  • 2. I use pam cooking oil for baking. Spray pam in your cake pan take & press your one portion in the pan cook 12 to 15 mins on 350. After your 6 layers are done
  • 3. ( Icing) Empty your apple butter & apple sauce in a pot and heat until it begins to boil also add 2 tsp cinnamon. place your 1 st layer In cake plate spread mixture ,then add another layer ,then spread your apple butter mixture repeat each layer until you have all 6 layers iced

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup sorghum molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg (beaten)
3 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon vanilla
applebutter, apple sauce or jam

Steps:

  • Cream shortening with molasses. Add egg. Mix all dry ingredients and add with milk. Beat to a stiff dough. Roll out to thickness of pie dough. Cut with cake pan (like cookie dough or biscuits.) Place the rounds of dough on a cookie sheet and bake 12 to 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes about nine layers. Place round on plate and cover with applebutter or jam. Place next round and do the same. Continue until all layers (or more) are used. Cover in foil and place in fridge for 24 to 72 hours to allow soaking of the cakes.
