CINNAMON APPLE SYRUP

This Cinnamon Apple Syrup is quick, easy and makes everything better! Toss everything into a pot and let it simmer for a gourmet tasting syrup in less than 15 minutes! This Apple Syrup is absolutely delightful on pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeal and even ice cream.

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tart apples (peeled and chopped into 1/2" chunks)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch (dissolved in 1/3 cup water)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine all of the syrup ingredients except for the apples. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar and melt butter.
  • Boil for 1 minute then reduce heat to medium and add apples. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until apples are desired tenderness. Depending on how much moisture your apples release, you may need to stir in an additional tablespoon or so of water to reach desired consistency.
  • Serve over pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeal or ice cream.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

A brilliant cheat's dessert, this fruit bake is super-quick and its store cupboard ingredients make it thrifty too

900g Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
juice ½ lemon
½ tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp plain flour
85g unsalted chilled butter , cubed
85g soft brown sugar
50g oats
25g chopped walnut
ice cream or crème fraîche , to serve

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. In a bowl, mix the apples with the lemon juice, cinnamon, 1 tbsp of flour, 15g of butter and 1 tbsp of brown sugar. Place in a small glass baking dish, cover with cling film and cook in the microwave for 5 mins at 600W, or slightly less time if you have a higher wattage.
  • Meanwhile, rub the remaining flour, butter, sugar, oats and nuts with your fingers to a crumble-like but chunky texture.
  • Spoon the cooked apples into an ovenproof dish. Scatter over the crumble and bake in the oven for 20 mins until crisp. Serve with ice cream or crème fraîche.

Add apple and raisins and boil until mixture is reduced to 1 1/2 cups, about 15 minutes longer. Stir in butter and cinnamon. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over low heat until heated through.) Serve warm.
