Like to make easy, homemade pizza? Use naan bread as the crust in this simple naan pizza recipe and enjoy a delicious, fast weeknight meal.

4 pieces naan
½ cup pizza sauce (100 g)
1 cup shredded mozzarella (85 g)
½ cup shredded cheddar or parmesan (40 g)
To Serve: fresh basil, crushed red pepper

Steps:

  • Prep: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Once hot, place naan directly on the racks and cook for 2 minutes. Flip carefully with tongs, then cook for another 2 minutes. Remove naan from the oven.
  • Assemble: Spread 2 Tbsp of sauce onto each naan, followed by ¼ cup of mozzarella and 2 Tbsp of either cheddar or parmesan.
  • Bake: Carefully place naan directly on the oven racks and bake for 4 to 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown.
  • Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then cut into slices and top with fresh basil and crushed pepper.

1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon aniseed
1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
6 hamburger buns, split
6 lettuce leaves
6 tomato slices

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture; mix well. Shape into six patties. Place on broiler pan coated with cooking spray. , Broil 6 in. from heat for 5-6 minutes on each side or until juices run clear. Sprinkle with cheese. Broil 1 minute longer or until cheese is melted. Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato.

1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 can (15 ounces) pizza sauce
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
1-1/2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink, 3-5 minutes, breaking into crumbles. Drain. Stir in the pizza sauce, mushrooms, sugar and oregano; mix well. Spoon onto buns; sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. , Place on ungreased baking sheets. Broil 4 in. from the heat until cheese is melted, 2 minutes. , To freeze for quick lunches later, place the split and toasted buns on a baking sheet. Spoon the meat mixture onto buns; freeze for 1 hour. Transfer to freezer-safe airtight containers., To use frozen burgers: Thaw completely in the refrigerator. Sprinkle with cheese. This is the dough recipe my grandmother used for pizza, it's the same recipe I still use for pizza and for calzones--the only change I've made is that I substitute shortening for the "leaf lard"....I suppose you could use olive oil for the shortening although I've never tried it. This is the dough recipe only. Please use your favorite pizza recipe for baking times/temperatures. NOTE: 2 hour "cooking time" is approx rising time.

4 2/3 cups sifted unbleached flour (all-purpose)
2 tablespoons leaves lard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1 (1 ounce) package active dry yeast, plus
0.25 (1 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 1/8 cups warm water
olive oil, for pan

Steps:

  • Put the flour on a board (or table or counter), add the lard, salt, pepper, yeast and warm water; work well until you get a smooth dough.
  • Place dough in a covered bowl (in a warm place) for about two hours or until doubled.
  • Place the dough on a floured board and pound it lightly to deflate it.
  • Cut dough in half, stretch each piece so it fits on the bottom of a lightly oiled 12-inch pie plate/pizza pan.

We are big fans of pizza burgers that some greasy spoons serve, but it is so hard to find a good one so I decided to come up with my own. Here is a real simple recipe that puts smiles on the faces of my family.

1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
4 slices mozzarella cheese
4 fresh hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Combine beef, tomato paste, salt, sugar, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, pepper, and oregano in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate to let flavors marry, about 4 hours.
  • Form beef mixture into 8 thin patties. Place 1 slice of mozzarella cheese on each of 4 patties; leave at least a 1/2-inch border, breaking up the cheese as needed. Place remaining patties on top and pinch edges to seal in the cheese.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Fry burgers until browned and centers reach 165 degrees F (74 degrees C), 6 to 7 minutes per side. Serve on buns.
