MY MOTHER- IN-LAW'S 7 LAYER SALAD



My Mother- in-law's 7 Layer Salad image

There are actually 8 layers, but as long as I have known my husband, his mom has been making this for all of the gatherings and it has been known as 7 layer salad! This salad looks especially nice in a glass bowl to display the layers.

1 head lettuce, broken into bite size pieces
1 cup celery, chopped
4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas
1 green pepper, chopped
2 cups mayonnaise, plus
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
7 slices bacon, fried and crumbled

Steps:

  • Layer the ingredients in the order given.
  • Let stand 8 to 10 hours or overnight.

My mom used to make me this delicious salad growing up and I was addicted to it, I would beg her to make it.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 large iceberg lettuce, rinsed, dried and chopped
1 lb bacon
1/2 cup sliced green onion
1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas, thawed
12 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup chopped cauliflower
1 cup mayonnaise (I always use Hellmans)
1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large skillet, cook over medium high heat until brown and fully cooked. Crumble and set aside.
  • In a large flat bowl, put the chopped lettuce in and layer with onion, peas, cauliflower and bacon. prepare the dressing by combining mayo, sour cream and sugar, mix well. Spread the dressing on top of salad and then top with cheese. Refrigerate until chilled.

This salad has been a regular at our church potluck dinners and is always enjoyed by many. I asked for the recipe early on and have made it many times in the past 15 years.

½ head lettuce, torn
1 cucumber, peeled and chopped, or more to taste
3 cups frozen peas, thawed
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
4 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
1 cup creamy salad dressing (such as Miracle Whip®)
½ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
12 ounces cooked crumbled bacon

Steps:

  • Layer lettuce, cucumber, peas, Cheddar cheese, and egg, respectively, in a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  • Whisk creamy salad dressing, sugar, and vinegar together in a bowl until dressing is smooth; spread over the egg layer. Crumble bacon over dressing layer.
