JUST LIKE WENDY'S® CHILI



Just Like Wendy's® Chili image

After trying several clone recipes and adjusting them to my tastes, I've concocted what I think is the best clone. Serve topped with finely diced white onions and/or shredded cheese. Enjoy!

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds ground beef
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
3 (14 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chiles (such as RO*TEL)
1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
2 (1.25 ounce) packages chili seasoning (such as McCormick® Mild Chili Seasoning Mix)
1 (14 ounce) can kidney beans, undrained
1 (14 ounce) can pinto beans, undrained
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon white vinegar, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Press ground beef into the hot oil to form one large patty; let the bottom brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir and break the ground beef into crumbles and cook until no longer pink, about 5 more minutes.
  • Stir celery, onion, and green bell pepper into ground beef and cook until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes; pour in stewed tomatoes, diced tomatoes with green chiles, tomato sauce, and water. Break apart large chunks of stewed tomatoes. Stir in chili seasoning.
  • Mix kidney beans and pinto beans into chili, season with salt and black pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour. Mix vinegar into chili.

30 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil
10 ml (2 tsp) salt
2 yellow onions, finely minced
5 ml (1 tsp) celery seeds
4 garlic cloves, minced
5 ml (1 tsp) turmeric
1 kg (2 lbs) lean ground beef
5 ml (1 tsp) cinnamon
30 ml (2 tbsp) chili powder
2 ml (1/2 tsp) hot red pepper flakes
15 ml (1 tbsp) ground cumin
500 ml (2 cups) tomato juice
15 ml (1 tbsp) dried oregano leaves
500 ml (2 cups) canned beef broth
10 ml (2 tsp) unsweetened cocoa powder
60 ml (1/4 cup) cornmeal

Steps:

  • Heat oil in Dutch oven set over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until translucent, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until brown, stirring frequently, about 8 minutes. Combine chili powder with ground cumin, oregano, cocoa, salt, celery seeds, turmeric, cinnamon and hot red pepper flakes. Mix into ground beef and stir for 3 minutes. Add tomato juice and broth and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer until liquid is reduced by 1/3, about 11/2 hours. Add cornmeal and stir for 2 minutes. Can be prepared ahead. Cool slightly, then cover and freeze in airtight container up to 2 months or refrigerate up to 3 days. Warm over medium-low heat.

1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (16 ounces) mild chili beans, undrained
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 pound ground beef
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1 to 2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Hot cooked spaghetti, optional

Steps:

  • In a blender, combine the tomatoes, beans, onion and green pepper; cover and puree until smooth. , In a large saucepan, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Add seasonings and pureed vegetables. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour. Serve with spaghetti if desired.

This recipe was developed by the creator while trying to find a chili that her kids would eat. All her family loves it! It is both thick and just a little bit sweet tasting, but not too much.

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 cup chopped yellow onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 can mild chili bean (Bush's)
1 can dark red kidney beans (Bush's)
2 cans DelMonte stewed tomatoes
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 package McCormick mild chili seasoning

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef and onion in large skillet.
  • Drain off grease and add salt, pepper, and garlic powder and fry until beef is done.
  • Transfer to stock pot or large kettle and add remaining ingredients.
  • Cook over medium low heat for 30-50 minutes or longer if desired.
  • Note: this is an adopted recipe. It needs a bit of tweaking.

1 tablespoon paprika
4 garlic cloves, minced
6 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon cumin
8 ounces tomato sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
cayenne pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef.
  • Add onion and garlic.
  • Cook 5 minutes.
  • Add spices.
  • Add salt, sauce and water.
  • Simmer for 2 hours.
