Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 slices thick-cut bacon
4 to 8 tender green lettuce leaves (washed and spun dry)
1 ripe heirloom tomato (cut into 1/2-inch thick slices (if tomatoes are not in season, use small on the vine tomatoes instead))
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
Kosher salt
Ground black pepper
4 slices good quality (sturdy whole wheat bread (I like sourdough))
4 tablespoons nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1/2 ripe avocado (sliced)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • For easy clean up, line a baking sheet with foil. Place a baking wire rack on top, coat the rack with non-stick spray, then arrange the bacon on the rack in a single layer. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes, until the bacon is crisp. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and pat dry.
  • Arrange the tomato slices in a single layer and drizzle with the vinegar. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Towards the end of the bacon's cooking time, place the bread slices on a sheet pan (or directly on the oven rack) and toast in the oven for 5 minutes. Flip the slices over and toast for 1 additional minute, until the bread is evenly browned. Then place 2 slices of the toasted bread on a cutting board or plate. Spread each slice with 1 tablespoon of yogurt.
  • Place a layer of lettuce on top. Add the tomatoes on top of the lettuce, lightly shaking off excess juice.
  • Add 3 slices of bacon (tear the bacon in half as needed to help it fit).
  • Add the avocado, then sprinkle with an additional pinch of salt and pepper. Spread each of the remaining slices of toasted bread with 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Place, yogurt-side down, on top. Cut the BLT sandwiches in half and serve.

CLASSIC BLT SANDWICH

Classic BLT Sandwich image

This is a sandwich that I crave a lot. I am just posting it because I couldn't find it posted already on the Zaar...I couldn't believe that! My ex-DH wondered how I make these, so I decided to post it and send him the recipe. Nothing fancy -- just the real, simple, unabridged version. UPDATE: After reading Peg629's review, I have tried it that way, with one slice of toast spread with yellow mustard, and I must say it really, really makes an exceptional BLT! Such a subtle difference, yet genuinely makes a superior BLT, in my opinion! (Thank you Peg629 for that awesome suggestion!)

Time 15m

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 lb bacon (approx. 12 slices)
8 slices white bread
8 leaves iceberg lettuce, fresh and full
8 slices of ripened tomatoes
8 tablespoons Hellmann's mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Cook bacon until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  • Toast the 8 slices of bread.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon mayo on each slice of toasted bread. (More or less, to taste).
  • Add 1 slice of lettuce to 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast.
  • Add 2 slices of tomato on top of lettuce.
  • Arrange 3 slices of bacon evenly on top of tomato. (Break bacon slices in half to fit, if needed.).
  • Add 1 slice of lettuce on top of bacon.
  • Put the remaining 4 pieces of mayo-spreaded toast on top to finish the sandwiches.
  • Enjoy!
  • NOTE: I also like to butter the toast slices before adding the mayo -- higher in fat, but tastier, in my opinion!

LAZY DAY BLT SANDWICH

Lazy Day BLT Sandwich image

This recipe was born from a lazy snowy day and not wanting to stand over a stove for lunch. What makes this sandwich different from others is the process in which its made. Hope you'll enjoy!

Time 35m

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 slices white bread or 8 slices whole wheat bread
1/4 cup melted salted butter, plus
1 pinch kosher salt, if desired
1 lb bacon, 4 to 6 slices per person
brown sugar
kosher salt
black pepper
1 head lettuce, torn into seperate leaves
2 -3 beefsteak tomatoes, sliced
mayonnaise (optional)

Steps:

  • Lay strips of uncooked bacon over a sheet pan fitted with a rack. This will allow the bacon fat to drip off onto the sheet pan and cause the bacon to crisp when baked.
  • Lightly sprinkle some fresh ground black pepper and brown sugar over the uncooked bacon. Add some kosher salt depending on how salty you like your bacon.
  • Place the bacon in a cold oven and then set the oven temp to 400 degrees and bake for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on how crispy you like it and thickness of the bacon. (I start checking on it around the 7 minute mark)
  • Move the cooked bacon to a plate covered in paper towels to drain.
  • Brush on the melted butter on one side of the bread and grill buttered side till golden brown.
  • Add bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo to grilled bread slices, pop open a beer and enjoy!
