A non-alcoholic drink for those who still want to participate in the Glühwein spirit (such as for children or your designated driver or those choosing to abstain).

Categories     Punches

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cup(s) water
4 bag(s) hibiscus tea or a fruit flavored tea (raspberry is preferred)
2 cup(s) apple juice
1 cup(s) grape or cherry juice
1/3 cup(s) orange juice
2 - cinnamon sticks
4 tablespoon(s) honey
6 - cloves, whole
1 - star anise

Steps:

  • Make the tea first - boil the water and steep the fruit or herbal in the hot water for about 8-10 minutes or so (varies based on the type of tea you choose). Discard the tea bags once steeping time is done.
  • In a slow cooker: combine all the ingredients and stir to combine. Turn on low or warm until heated, could be up to an hour depending on your slow cooker.
  • In a saucepan: combine all ingredients and bring to a simmer.
  • Ladle into mugs. You can choose to decorate each cup with some lemon or orange peel or a cinnamon stick.
  • As a final note - hibiscus tea should not be served to pregnant women, especially during the 1st trimester. It can cause hormone fluctuations and contractions throughout the pregnancy. If you'd like to avoid using hibiscus tea, substitute another fruity tea or avoid the herbal tea altogether
