Number Of Ingredients 11

3 cups butter-flavored shortening
4 cups sugar
1 cup molasses
4 eggs
8 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in molasses and eggs. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and ginger; gradually add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. , Shape 1/4 cupfuls of dough into balls; roll in sugar. Place four cookies on a greased baking sheet at a time. Bake at 350° for 18-20 minutes or until edges are set. Remove to wire racks to cool.

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup dark molasses
1/2 cup water
4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

Steps:

  • Beat 1 cup sugar and the butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in remaining ingredients except sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours until dough is firm.
  • Heat oven to 375°. Generously grease cookie sheet with shortening. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on generously floured cloth-covered surface. Cut into 3-inch circles. Sprinkle with sugar. Place about 1 1/2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  • Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched lightly in center. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening (such as Crisco)
1 cup dark molasses
1/2 cup water
4 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients in the order given.
  • Chill for 3-4 hours.
  • Roll dough 1/4" thick.
  • Cut in 3" circles.
  • Place on cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degF for 10-12 minutes.
  • Let cool 2 minutes before removing from pan.

Steps:

  • Mix 1 cup sugar, the molasses, shourtening and water. Stir in remaining ingredients excepat sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Heat oven to 375. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on a well floured cloth-coverred board. Cut into 3-inch rounds; sprinkle wiht sugar. Place about 1 1/2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, 10 to 12 minutes. Cool 2 minutes. Remove form cookie sheet.

2 1/4 C. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1 C. packed dark brown sugar
1 extra large egg
1/4 C. regular, unsulphured molasses (backstrap is too strong)
granulated sugar to roll dough in before baking

Steps:

  • preheat oven to 350 w/rack in center; line 2 baking sheets w/foil & grease foil w/butter; sift flour, soda, salt, cinnamon & ginger into a medium bowl, set aside; cream butter and br. sugar with mixer on high speed until light and fuffy (about 1 minute); w/mixer on medium, beat in the egg & molasses; slowly add dry ingredients, increase speed to high and beat about 1 minute longer, until the mixture no longer looks curdled; scrape the sides several times; the batter will be rather stiff; place some granulated sugar on a small plate; using a 1/4 C. ice cream scoop to form portions of dough; roll each into a rough ball and roll in sugar; place sugared balls on baking sheets; dampen your fingers w/water and press down lightly on each cookie to flatten it a little and dampen the top; refrigerate one sheet while the other bakes; bake for 12 minutes till the cookies have spread
