3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
2 cups white sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
¼ cup orange juice
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
5 teaspoons white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 10 inch tube pan. Combine the ground cinnamon and 5 teaspoons of the sugar together and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder and 2 cups of the sugar. Stir in the vegetable oil, beaten eggs, orange juice and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Pour 1/2 of the batter into the prepared pan. Top with 1/2 of the sliced apples and sprinkle with 1/2 of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Pour the remaining batter over the top and layer the remaining sliced apples and cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 70 to 90 minutes.

So here is my version of the best Jewish Apple Cake out there (it was handed down to me by my grandmother). I've been making this cake for 37 years now. It is a foolproof recipe and a sure crowd-pleaser.

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾ cup white sugar
5 large Rome Beauty apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
4 eggs

1 cup vegetable oil
¼ cup orange juice
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan.
  • Mix cinnamon, 3/4 cup of sugar, and apples in a bowl; set aside. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Beat the eggs and 2 cups of sugar with an electric mixer until fluffy. Pour in the flour mixture alternately with the oil. Beat in the orange juice and vanilla until smooth and thoroughly mixed. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Layer half of the apples on top. Pour the remaining batter over, then finish by topping with the rest of the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack.

6 cups peeled thinly sliced apples (about 3 large apples or 6 small apples)
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cinnamon
3 cups flour, sifted
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 cup oil
1/2 cup orange juice
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional) or 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix apple slices with cinnamon and 1 cup sugar; set aside.
  • Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl; set aside.
  • Beat eggs with 1 1/2 cups sugar and light brown sugar.
  • Alternately add the dry ingredients and the oil to the wet ingredients, then add the orange juice and lastly the vanilla and beat for 1 minute.
  • Pour 1/3rd of the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.

This cake is extremely delicious. I got this recipe from cooking class and this by far the best food we ever made in that class. Everyone loves it. I'm not a huge fan of apple cake but I really don't mind the apples in this recipe. I sometimes make this recipe without the apples and it tastes great. You have to try it, otherwise you are definitely missing out. *Helpful hints for making the cake* -Sweeter apples = sweeter cake -I usually use 3 apples because 4 is a lot for me -Applesauce is a substitute for oil. I use 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cups applesauce. Depends how less fattening you want it to be. -I would core and peel apples after I am done the batter so they won't brown. Or you could put lemon juice on them. -Do not put cinnamon sugar mixture on top of your last batter when poured in pan. It will burn since it is on the top.

4-5 Tbsp sugar (depending on the tartness of the apples)
2 Tsp. Cinammon
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil (Canola or Sunflower)
4 large eggs (plus 1 additional if batter is too thick)
2 1/2 Tsp. vanilla
1 Tsp. salt
3 Tsp. baking powder

Steps:

  • Peel and dice apples into thimble size pieces. Mix 4-5 tbsp. sugar with cinammon and sprinkle over apples. Set aside. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla.   • 1. Preheat over to 350. Grease, sugar and flour a 10in Bundt or tube pan 2.Combine apple slices with 5 T sugar and cinn, set aside. 3. Combine flour, b pwder and salt in a bowl, and set aside. 4. Beat eggs with remaining sugar and br. sugar. Add veg oil, orange juice and vanilla; beat well. Gradually blend in flour mix and mix until well blended (about one min.) 5. Pour one third of the batter into the pan. Top with half the apple slices, draining off any liquid. Pour in half the remaining batter and top with remaining apple slices. Top with remaing batter, making sure the apples are covered. 6. Bake 55-60 min, until the top turns golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let cool 10 min in pan. 1/3 c orange juice

6 medium apples such as Fuji/red delicious
2 tsp cinnamon
5 Tbsp sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease a tube pan well.
  • 2. Mix the apples, cinnamon, and sugar in a small bowl and set aside (do this prior as it gives the apples time to absorb the flavoring).
  • 3. Mix the first 8 ingredients together. Blend until smooth.
  • 4. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  • 5. Top with half of the apple mixture.
  • 6. Pour the rest of batter.
  • 7. Then top it with the remaining apple mixture.
  • 8. Bake the cake for 90 minutes. Begin checking to see if it's baked at 1 hour 20 minutes.
  • 9. Allow cake to cool 10 minutes before removing the outer tube. To remove cake from the pan, run a sharp knife around the outside edge of the tube pan.

1 (20 ounce) can sliced apples, not apple pie filling, drained and cut into small pieces
1 (18 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup cinnamon-sugar mixture, to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Grease and flour a Bundt pan, I use Bakers Joy spray.
  • In a large bowl, mix cake mix, pudding mix, oil, milk, vanilla extract and eggs.
  • Mix thoroughly for 2 minutes or until well blended.
  • Pour 1/2 batter into Bundt pan.
  • Put 1/2 of the apples on top of the batter.

PEEL, CORE AND SLICE APPLES AND PUT ASIDE
3-4 large apples, sliced little less than 1/4 inch thick
MIX TOGETHER AND PUT ASIDE
6 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
COMBINE DRY INGREDIENTS IN MIXING BOWL & SET ASIDE
3 c flour
2 c sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
FIRST COMBINE THESE INGREDIENTS AND MIX ONLY UNTIL SMOOTH. DO NOT OVER MIX.
4 lg eggs room temperature
1 c vegetable oil
1/2 c orange or pineapple juice
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Prehead oven to 350 degrees farenheit.
  • 2. Grease and flour 10" or 12" tube pan. 10" gives you a taller cake and less slices.
  • 3. Follow instructions under Ingredients , putting moist ingredients in mixing bowl first adding the dry next. and put 1/2 the batter in pan, then put enough apples on top to fill top of batter, then sprinkle 1/2 the cinnamon, sugar mixture on top. Repeat this for rest of batter, finishing with rest of apples and cinnamon, sugar mixture on top.
  • 4. Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or 1 hour 30 mins., testing with knife until it comes clean.
  • 5. Best if made a day ahead, covered, right after it cools completely. It will make the cake so moist and flavorful as the apple flavors and cinnamon mix with the cake.

3 cups unsifted flour
2 cups sugar

Steps:

  • Filling: Mix apple pieces, sugar and cinnamon.
  • Cake: Add wet ingredients.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet.
  • Batter will be thick.
  • Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan Add half the batter to pan.
  • Add half the apples.
  • Add the other half of batter and top with the apples.
  • Bake at 350F for 1 ½ hours.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups white sugar
5 teaspoons white sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup orange juice
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 10 inch tube pan. Combine the ground cinnamon and 5 teaspoons of the sugar together and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder and 2 cups of the sugar. Stir in the vegetable oil, beaten eggs, orange juice and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Pour 1/2 of the batter into the prepared pan. Top with 1/2 of the sliced apples and sprinkle with 1/2 of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Pour the remaining batter over the top and layer the remaining sliced apples and cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 70 to 90 minutes.

6 medium apples (fuji is best)
3 tsp cinnamon
1-2 Tbsp splenda sugar blend
3 Tbsp splenda brown sugar blend
2 3/4 c flour, sifted
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 c canola oil
1 1/4 c splenda sugar blend
1/4 c orange juice
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 c chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a tube pan. Peel, core and chop apples into bite-sized chunks. Toss with cinnamon, 1-2 tbsp Splenda Sugar Blend and the Brown Sugar Blend - set aside.
  • 2. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, orange juice, sugar and vanilla. Mix wet ingredients into the dry ones, and then add eggs, one at a time. Stir in chopped walnuts. Scrape down the bowl to ensure all ingredients are blended together.
  • 3. Pour half of batter into prepared pan. Spread half of apples over it. Pour the remaining batter over the apples and arrange the remaining apples on top. You can sprinkle top with additional chopped walnuts. Bake for about 1-1/2 hours, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

I adapted this recipe from "The art of Jewish Cooking" by Jennie Grossinger of the famous Catskills "Grossinger's Resort" This cakes is very simple yet delicious. Make sure that you use fresh, crispy apples! I use the kitchenaid for the whole thing.

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
6 apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Spray 9x9 glass pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
  • Sift flour, salt, baking powder and 3Tb of sugar into a bowl.
  • Mix in 1/2 ( 1/4 cup ) of the butter.
  • Beat the egg and milk together, then add.
  • Mix all well.
  • Pour the batter ( it will be thick) into the prepared pan.
  • Peel and slice apples-then place over batter.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon and the other 3 TB. sugar.
  • Melt the remaining butter and pour over top.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
