Take canned beans up a notch with this jazzed up baked beans recipe. Doctored baked beans are semi-homemade, easy, and perfect for a BBQ or potluck!

8 slices bacon
½ small green bell pepper (finely chopped)
1 small red onion (finely chopped)
56 ounces pork & beans (two 28 oz cans)
½ cup barbecue sauce
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
  • Chop the bacon and cook until crisp in a large skillet.
  • Remove bacon from the pan and drain off all grease except for about 1 tablespoon.
  • Add onions and peppers to the pan with the bacon grease and cook until translucent.
  • In a large bowl stir together the beans, veggies, bbq sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, pepper and worcestershire sauce.
  • Pour the beans into a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Top with the cooked bacon.
  • Bake uncovered for 1 to 1 ½ hours, you want them to bake and thicken up nicely.
  • Serve!

I've been preparing my beans this way for years. I just wasn't a big fan of ground beef in my beans, so I tried it this way. It's always gone over well.

14-16 oz smoked sausage (beef or pork)
10-12 oz frozen seasoning blend
2 - 28 oz can(s) bush country style baked beans
2/3 c brown sugar, loosely packed

Steps:

  • 1. Cut up the smoked sausage to your desired size. Saute it along with seasoning blend until sausage is browned.
  • 2. In a casserole dish, add baked beans and brown sugar. Stir until combined. Add sausage mixture.
  • 3. Bake uncovered at 375° F for about 30-45 minutes, until done. I really don't remember how long I baked it. I'll update it next time.

1 (15 ounce) can butter beans
1/2 cup strong coffee
1/2 cup jack daniels Bourbon
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar (optional)
3 tablespoons molasses
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
0.5 (8 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce (hickory)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2 hours.
  • Uncover and cook to desired consistency.

1/4 cup sorghum

Steps:

  • Cook bacon just to remove grease Combine rest of ingredients Add the bacon and put in large baking dish Bake uncovered in 325 degree oven 60-75min.
  • You may also fix this in crockpot on low 6-8hours.
