Time 15m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4-1/2 cup milk (depending on how thick you want the dressing) or 1/4-1/2 cup buttermilk (depending on how thick you want the dressing)
1/4 cup chopped flat leaf parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
1/2 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 dash hot sauce
2 heads iceberg lettuce

Steps:

  • Sprinkle salt over garlic and mash together to make a paste, the finer the better. Combine the paste with all ingredients except lettuce. Taste and adjust the seasoning, if needed. Chill for several hours before serving. When ready to serve, thin with more buttermilk if needed.
  • Wash and dry the lettuce. Cut into wedges.
  • To serve: place wedges on a platter or salad plates and drizzle dressing over wedges, making sure you have enough for all the lettuce leaves.

Categories     Salad     Sauce     Side     Dinner     Lettuce

Yield serves 4

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 head iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons ketchup
Dash of Tabasco sauce
Dash of black pepper

Steps:

  • Wash the lettuce and remove any damaged or wilted outer leaves. Remove the lettuce core and discard. Cut the head into quarters and set it aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and the ketchup. Add the Tabasco sauce and pepper to taste. Place a lettuce wedge on each serving plate. Drizzle with the dressing.
  • Quick Lettuce Core Removal Tip
  • Slam the head of lettuce down on a cutting board, core-side down. The core will separate from the rest of the head with a twist and come out easily.
  • From Trisha
  • This dressing also makes a great topping for burgers.
  • From Gwen
  • There are no pickles in the dressing, thus no "islands." I call it Rushin' Dressing because you can mix it quickly when you are rushing to get dinner on the table.

Mama's Iceberg Wedge Wih Homemade Thousand Island Dressing image

This recipe is from Paula Deen. I made it to go with a simple beef tenderloin and it was a perfect accompaniment. Even if you aren't a HUGE tomato fan, do sprinkle a few on. The combination of all of these ingredients is what makes this such a successful yet simple dish.
