HOT MULLED WINE
This recipe of my grandmother's is always a hit at a get-together, especially on those cold, blustery days. I usually keep it warm in a slow cooker. You can use claret or Burgundy.

Steps:
- Stir water and sugar together in a saucepan until sugar dissolves. Add lemon, cloves, and cinnamon stick; bring mixture to a boil and cook until flavors combine, about 10 minutes. Strain and return water mixture to the saucepan; discard lemon, cloves, and cinnamon stick.
- Stir claret wine into water mixture; heat until hot but not boiling, 5 to 10 minutes. Serve flecked with nutmeg.

EASY-PEASY GLUHWEIN (HOT GERMAN SPICED WINE/AKA "MULLED CIDER")
This is the super-easy version of Gluhwein. Don't waste space in the pot with fruit. The spices and heat will add a whole new level to the sangria! This is always a big hit at my Christmas parties! You can use 1 whole orange peel in place of the whole lemon peel, if desired.

- Place cinnamon sticks, cloves and rosemary on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag., In a 1-1/2-qt. slow cooker, combine the wine, cranberries, sugar, bourbon, orange juice and zest. Add spice bag. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until heated through. Discard spice bag. Serve warm.

My grandmother Margaret loved to entertain. This was one of her favorite beverages for cold, blustery, rainy days. We've served it through the years, usually during the holidays, and it's always a huge hit. If desired, serve flecked with nutmeg.

- 1. In a pot, heat above ingredients to just a slight simmer...do not let boil.
- 2. Remove from heat and let steep 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove spices and cooked lemon. Then add a fresh slice of lemon to each glass before pouring the hot wine over it.

- 1. Mix all ingredients together. Store in airtight container. May be stored at room temperature indefinitely Mulled wine for single serving: 1 1/2 tsp. Mulled Wine Mix, above 1/3 cup water 2/3 cup dry red wine Cinnamon stick In small pan, bring mix land water to a boil. Add wine and heat til hot; Do not boil. HOT MULLED WINE
Steps:
- Pour the wine into a large pot and begin heating over low heat. As it begins to warm, add sugar and spices. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add the brandy. Heat thoroughly, but do not allow to boil! Add the lemon and orange. Steep for about 1 hour over low heat. You may add more sugar during this time if desired, stirring well so it disolves. Serve hot and garnish with orange slices. A stick cinnamon could also be used.
