Mom's Homemade White Bread Rolls (Or Loaves) image

My mom makes this every year for the holidays, these are delicious and pretty easy to make. I've gotten detailed in the instructions, because she gave me this recipe when I was first learning how to make bread.

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 4h20m

Yield 1 ten X thirteen pan of rolls

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups water
1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon shortening
2 teaspoons salt
6 cups flour

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast and 2 Tablespoons sugar in 1/4 cup warm water, set aside.
  • Microwave 2 cups water, shortening and salt, until the shortening melts.
  • Stir this mixture until it completely dissolves.
  • Start adding flour about 2 cups to start to this mixture, just a little at a time so that it stays smooth and doesn't get lumpy.
  • Then add yeast mixture, mix well.
  • Continue adding flour and then turn out on floured surface and knead in remaining flour, until no longer tacky.
  • Grease a large bowl or pan with vegetable oil.
  • Put the bread in this bowl cover and let it rise.
  • If you use a fast acting yeast it should take about 45 minutes.
  • Turn out on the counter and fold in sides, put back in bowl and let rise again.
  • After the second rising it is time to turn it out and make the rolls or bread and place it in a pan.
  • Make sure the pan is well oiled with vegetable oil.
  • Place them in the pan (pans) and let rise one last time and then bake them at 375°F oven until done, about 20 minutes or so.

DELICIOUS HOMEMADE BREAD BY HAND (WHITE OR WHEAT)

Delicious Homemade Bread by Hand (White or Wheat) image

This is homemade bread (you can do white or wheat) that doesn't require the use of a bread machine at all. It freezes well and is all around just a great recipe that always impresses and keeps my children asking for more. You can make this with wheat by substituting white flour for wheat and 1/3 cup honey for the sugar. This recipe is EASILY doubled and does perfectly. Enjoy one and freeze the other.

Time 2h31m

Yield 1 Loaf, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 1/2 cups white flour
1 1/3 cups warm water (not hot but not cool either)
2 1/4 teaspoons bulk yeast (or 1 packet of yeast)
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Mix yeast and warm water in a large bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. During this time you should see bubbles appear in the water (perfectly normal).
  • Once yeast and water have sat for 10 minutes, add the oil, salt, sugar and 1 cup of flour. Mix with a hand mixer for 2 minutes. After the 2 minutes, stir in the rest of the flour and mix with a large spoon until you can no longer mix by spoon and continue by hand kneading as you go. Once you have all flour completely mixed in, you should have a texture that is NOT sticky and not dry (if it IS sticky add more flour and if it IS dry, add a LITTLE more water until desired consistency is reached). Roll into a dough ball.
  • Place in an oiled boil (must be oiled and not sprayed) and flip one time. Cover with a damp towel and place in warm environment (NOT HOT). What I do is preheat the oven to 170 and then immediately turn off while I'm mixing the dough - this leaves the oven at the perfect temperature to rise. Let rise for 1 hour OR until doubled in size.
  • Remove towel and dough and place dough ona lightly floured surface. Knead the dough and roll out into a large rectangle (you MAY need to lightly flour your rolling pin as well). You will now roll the rectangle back up along the short side (if you roll along the long side it will not fit in your bread pan). Pinch seams together on bottom and on ends and place seem side down into a sprayed full-size loaf pan. Place a damp towel over the loaf pan and put it back into the oven to rise a second time (again no heat on) for 30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven at about 24 minutes and let it rise the last 6 minutes on the counter while you preheat your oven to 370 degrees F.
  • Place uncovered loaf pan into the oven and bake for 30-32 minutes.
  • Cool on wire rack and allow cooling time before cutting. Enjoy!

HOMEMADE WHITE BREAD, NON-BREAD MACHINE

Homemade White Bread, Non-Bread Machine image

Delicious, basic bread recipe. Yummy! When I make this recipe, I bake one, and freeze the other two loaves, then use them later. To use later, I simply thaw in greased bread pan & let rise above & continue to follow same directions as posted. Enjoy!

HOMEMADE WHITE BREAD

Homemade White Bread image

I make bread almost every week, and have made this particular bread recipe longer than I care to admit. It is soft, light, airy, and tastes wonderful. This recipe never fails me. This recipe can also be made into dinner rolls, but adjust the temperture for rolls to 325 and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Time 45m

Yield 2 loaves, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (1/4 ounce) packages active dry yeast (regular not rapid rise)
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup canola oil or 1/2 cup light tasting olive oil
2 cups hot water (hot to the touch from the tap)
1/3 cup powdered milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups bread flour

Steps:

  • Note: If you do not have powdered milk, you can heat 2 cups of milk, or 1 cup milk and 1 cup water; whichever you prefer, in a small saucepan to 120 degrees on a candy thermometer and omit the 2 cups of water.
  • Grease a large mixing bowl and set aside. In another large mixing bowl, add the yeast, salt, sugar, oil, and hot water. With a mixer, mix all those ingredients for 2 minutes. Add 2 cups of flour and the powdered milk. Mix for another 2 minutes. With a wooden spoon, stir in 3 cups of bread flour. Remove the dough from the bowl out onto a lightly floured counter top or table.
  • Begin to knead the dough. You may need to sprinkle a little flour on your dough or counter top a couple of times as you knead until it doesn't stick to your surface any more. Knead the dough for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Take dough & place in the greased bowl; flip the dough over so greased side is up. Cover with a piece of plastic wrap; don't tighten it down, just lay it over the bowl loosely....or you can use a small tea towel too. But the plastic helps it from drying out too much.
  • Let it rise until double in a warm place -- a sunny window or on a warm clothes dryer that is running. It can rise as quickly as 45 minutes in those warm places. Otherwise, it can take up to 1 hour to 1 ½ hours depending on the temperature in your house.
  • Lightly grease 2 bread loaf pans with shortening. Divide dough in half & shape into a bread loaf pans. Cover with kitchen towel and let rise until doubled.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for about 30-40 minute (everyone's oven temperature varies, so keep that in mind) Loaves should be golden brown on top. Remove from oven. Remove loaves from pans onto a wire rack.
  • Take a wet paper towel, and it can be really good and wet, and wipe off the tops of the baked loaves of bread. This does not make your bread soggy. It keeps the bread crust soft! But, you can skip this step if you want.
  • And....if you insist on cutting a slice of bread before it is cool, use a electric knife or a large serrated bread knife so the loaf don't get squashed down when you are cutting it. Spread some butter on your slice of bread and enjoy!

DELICIOUS HOMEMADE WHITE BREAD

Delicious Homemade White Bread image

I found this recipe on a website, and tried it. This is a basic white loaf of bread. Hope you enjoy as much as I do. Everything is done by hand, but I'm sure that you can use a bread machine. Kitchen Aid, or Bosch.

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 1h

Yield 6 Loaves

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 cups hot water
3/4 cup oil
3 tablespoons salt
4 1/2 tablespoons sugar
15 cups all-purpose flour
4 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
2 tablespoons oil (to coat the kneaded dough)

Steps:

  • Take a huge mixing bowl and add in your water, oil, salt and sugar. Mix well until all sugar and salt are melted. Then add 13 cups of the flour and sprinkle yeast on top. Mix with a wooden spoon until you no longer can and then start kneading by hand adding the last 2 cups of flour gradually. Knead well for about 5- 10 minutes until your dough is smooth and easy to knead. You might have to add a little more flour if your dough is still sticky after kneading for a bit.
  • When the dough is thoroughly kneaded pour your 2 tbs's of oil into the bottom of your bowl and roll your big ball of kneaded dough around in it coating all sides well. Let dough rise till doubled in size then punch it down and knead it again just a bit to get the air bubbles out. Then divide it into 6 equal portions.
  • Knead each ball of dough slightly and shape into loaf then place in buttered loaf pans. Then set each pan into your (turned OFF) oven for about 30 minutes, or until they rise nice and big and juicy looking:).
  • Then take them out of your oven and preheat it to 350°F When your oven is fully heated up return your risen loaves into your hot oven and bake for about 15 minutes! It's as simple as that!

HOMEMADE WHITE BREAD RECIPE USING A KITCHENAID MIXER RECIPE

Homemade White Bread Recipe using a KitchenAid Mixer Recipe image

Provided by Lalabee

Number Of Ingredients 8

Gold Medal Classic White Bread (click the link for directions on how to make the bread without a mixer)
6 to 7 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour*
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
2 packages regular or quick active dry yeast (4 1/2 teaspoons)
2 1/4 cups very warm water (120° to 130°F)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted, if desired

Steps:

  • In your mixing bowl, stir 3 1/2 cups of the flour, the sugar, salt, shortening and yeast until well mixed. Turn mixer on low and slowly add warm water. Gradually increase the speed of the mixer until well mixed. Add flour one cup at a time (up to 7 cups of flour) until dough is no longer sticky and it is easy to handle. Dough should no longer stick to the sides of the bowl and it should not stick to the mixer attachment. Cover bowl loosely with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel and let rise in warm place until dough has doubled in size. Once it has risen, gently push into dough to deflate, gather it into a ball and divide the dough in half. Stretch the dough a few times and shape into a ball. Place each ball in a lightly greased bread pan and brush with olive oil on top. Cover with plastic wrap and kitchen towel and let rise in warm place.TIP: I typically start my oven and then place the dough near the vent on the stovetop. By the time the oven is heated up the dough has risen sufficiently. Preheat oven to 425°F. When dough has risen and oven is hot, place both loaves in the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes until loaves are golden brown. Remove from oven, brush tops with melted butter, and allow to cool slightly. *Note: I store my loaves in large ziploc bags to keep them fresh but trust me, we eat them pretty quickly!
